Although Pete Travis was the man on set helming the new Dredd movie, he’s been removed from the director role during the post-production phase, according to a report in Friday’s L.A. Times.

The movie stars Karl Urban as the 2000 AD character Judge Dredd and was shot earlier this year. However, the L.A. Times states, “Travis has not been involved in the current editing phase of the movie, after creative disagreements with producers and executives in charge of the film reached a boiling point,” according to three separate sources who note that “the editing room is now being run by a writer-producer on the film, the screenwriter Alex Garland.”

The paper also alleges that Garland may seek a co-director credit, and that a reshoot may be required. One of the sources claims that although Travis is not physically present in the edit room, “he is keeping up with progress via the Internet and has not been pushed aside.”

Dredd is still set for release in September 2012.

Update October 11th: An official statement clarifying the position has now been released
