Stargate writer/producer Damian Kindler is turning to another Roland Emmerich film for his next TV series: he’s been hired to work on a reboot of the Universal Soldier series, based on Emmerich’s 1992 movie.
Kindler, currently also working on Sanctuary which returns to Syfy US later this month, is preparing a pilot for FremantleMedia North America, according to a report from Mipcom on Deadline.com, which revives the concept of dead soldiers being reanimated by a secret Army project to continue fighting.
At present it’s unknown whether Kindler’s script will follow the chronology of the theatrical movies which began with the Jean Claude Van Damne/Dolph Lundgren film (a fourth film in the series recently was filmed in Louisana, reuniting the two stars), opt to incorporate the two direct-to-TV movies created for Showtime in 1998 which were written out of continuity by the third theatrical film, or reboot the concept from scratch.
