Even before the first of their Hunger Games trilogy of films has hit cinemas, Lionsgate are promoting their latest acquisition as a worthy follow-up to their adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novels.
Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking trilogy – comprising The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Man – is being developed as a series of films. The books are set on the planet New World, which has been colonised by Christian settlers. However, a germ in the atmosphere means all thoughts are audible and only young Todd Hewitt can prevent devastation.
“A sense of urgency and momentum permeates these stories – it makes the books ones you can’t put down, and will make the movies ones you can’t miss on the big screen,” Lionsgate co-chief operating officer and Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake said. “But apart from the story elements, the world in the stories is so vividly imagined. These are books, much like The Hunger Games, that we feel truly beg to be brought to life on film.”
