This Saturday’s episode of Doctor Who Confidential will be the last in the series, according to a report in today’s Guardian newspaper.

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed the news, telling the paper, “The Doctor Who spin-off series, Doctor Who Confidential, has been a great show for BBC3 over the years, but our priority now is to build on original British commissions, unique to the channel.”

Controller Zai Bennett told the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival recently that her priorities had changed: “It’s about focusing my budget on 9pm and 10.30pm; those are the time slots that count. Budgets are tight, so we have to be sensible with the money we have.”

Doctor Who Confidential has run since the return of the show in March 2005, with Cut-Down versions of the episodes appearing on the DVD releases of the series. A further spin-off Totally Doctor Who accompanied David Tennant’s first two seasons as the Doctor.
