Marvel studio president Kevin Feige has confirmed that the second Thor movie will see the Asgardian superhero go “literally to other worlds”.

Speaking to EW, Feige commented that Thor 2 will “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.” The character of course will next be seen in The Avengers in May.

Following the unusual choice of Kenneth Branagh for the first movie, Marvel is also considering hiring Monster director Patty Jenkins to helm the second film, according to Deadline. Since the 2003 movie, she has directed episodes of Entourage and the US adaptation of the Danish hit The Killing.

The first Thor film is released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on September 26. Thor 2 will open on July 26, 2013.
