Isaac Asimov’s robotic murder mystery The Caves of Steel is being adapted for the big screen by 20th Century Fox.

According to Deadline.com, John Scott 3 will adapt the 1954 story, which introduced Asimov’s long running characters human Elijah Baley and humanoid robot R. Daneel Olivaw. They investigate the murder of an Ambassador, who is campaigning for less restrictions on robots, on a future Earth which is covered with giant domed city complexes – the caves of the title. The story was previously adapted by Dalek creator Terry Nation for the Story Parade series on BBC2 in 1964.

Scott 3 will be working with director Henry Hobson on the project; the pair are currently in pre-production on Maggie, the story of a 16 year old girl’s metamorphosis into a zombie over a six week period.
