Sabrina the Teenage Witch is heading back to TV screens for a new series – and this time it sounds as if we’re going to see a much edgier version of the comics character.
According to The L.A. Times’ Hero Complex blog, the latest incarnation of the Archie Comics character will sport skinny jeans, spiky hair and a tattoo in the animated series created by the comics company and MoonScoop Entertainment. “This is the first new animation for Sabrina in almost 10 years,” Archie Comics Chief Executive Jon Goldwater explained. “It’s a combination of Twilight meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s a little more dealing in the supernatural realm.”
Sabrina starred in her own long-running 1970s cartoon version, and an animated Saturday morning show ran alongside the Melissa Joan Hart live action series for a season. MoonScoop are hoping that this may lead to a feature film, with their Chief Executive Mike Young ambitiously saying, “With Harry Potter coming to an end, we wanted to fill that void. She’s a teenage girl with superpowers, for god’s sake. So Sabrina fits perfectly.”
