According to various reports in the British media today, this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special will see the Time Lord in a pastiche of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia tales.
Possibly entitled The Lion, The Witch and the TARDIS, the story sees the Doctor acting as caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset during the Second World War. He befriends mum Madge Arwell and her two children Lily and Cyril and takes them off on an adventure.
Showrunner Steven Moffat is quoted in the Daily Star saying, “If you thought last year’s show was the most Christmassy ever, then think again,” adding, “The Doctor at Christmas – nothing is more fun to write. It’s maybe because it’s so his kind of day. Everything’s bright and shiny, everybody’s having a laugh, and nobody minds if you wear a really stupid hat.”
Guest stars include Outnumbered‘s Claire Skinner, Bill Bailey, Alexander Armstrong and Arabella Weir. Filming began on September 17 for transmission “over the Christmas period” but most likely on Christmas Day.
