Legendary American author Harlan Ellison has brought a lawsuit in the California federal court against New Regency, director Andrew Niccol and John Does (i.e. other people whose names are not specifically known at this stage) regarding the Fox movie In Time, and has asked for an injunction against the distributor.

Ellison states that In Time is  based on his multiple prize-winning 1965 work, Repent, Harlequin! Said The Ticktockman, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which the author only agreed to allow to be adapted into a screenplay last year. Ellison claims that In Time will jeopardize any official adaptation of his story.

The author lists numerous points of similarity between In Time and his tale, and quotes critics who believe that the film is based on his story. As well as seeking an injunction, Ellison is demanding all profits from the allegedly copyright-infringing material.
