Karen Gillan’s performance as Amy Pond on Doctor Who was hailed in the TV Choice awards which were presented on September 13 at London’s Savoy Hotel.

A 2011 Award also went to Doctor Who for Best Family Drama, while Matt Smith was beaten to the award for Best Actor by his predecessor, David Tennant, for his performance in the series Single Father. Being Human triumphed over Misfits to win Best Drama, while Steven Moffat’s Sherlock was acclaimed Best New Drama over The Walking Dead, Downton Abbey and Single Father.

The TV Choice Awards are voted for by members of the public.
