A season after they cancelled their adaptation of DC’s Human Target, Fox are heading back into the superhero business, with a new version of The Spectre given a script commitment by the network, according to Deadline.com.

Co-created by Superman‘s Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily, The Spectre first appeared in 1940 – the spirit of cop Jim Corrigan who had been refused entry to the afterlife after being murdered by gangsters. In later years, after Corrigan found peace, the role of the Spectre was taken by former Green Lantern Hal Jordan and until the recent revamp of the DC Universe was one of its most powerful characters.

John Doe’s Brandon Camp is penning the screenplay and will executive produce along with Bill Gerber.
