Entertainment Weekly has confirmed a report by Vulture.com that J.J. Abrams has finally signed up to direct the sequel to the 2009 Star Trek movie, although no official announcement has yet been made by Paramount Pictures.
The film was originally due to be released on June 29, 2012, but Paramount recently assigned that date to the G.I. Joe sequel, without suggesting a new slot for the next trip for the crew of the Starship Enterprise. At present speculation is rife that the movie will be moved back to an equivalent date in summer 2013.
