Speaking on This Morning on September 6, Red Dwarf and Coronation Street star Craig Charles has confirmed that pre-production work on the new series of the sci-fi comedy is underway at Shepperton Studios.

“The last series was 1998 – and we started it in ’87… but I’ll be back in the leathers, back in the dreadlocks. Everyone is back on board and they are building the sets now at Shepperton. It’s going to be like the old days, we are going to rehearse, and record it in front of a live studio audience. Everyone’s older, but I could still fit in the costumes!”

Although Charles is correct in stating that the last full series of Red Dwarf was in 1998, the show returned in a three-part story Back to Earth for Dave in 2009, which is apparently being treated as the ninth season. There is no confirmation on transmission dates for the tenth series.
