Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and creator of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, has been tapped to write a sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice as part of a two-year deal with Warner Bros. signed by his production company KatzSmith.
Deadline.com reports that Grahame-Smith impressed Warners with his work on Burton’s new Dark Shadows movie, and he introduced them to his production partner David Katzenberg, with whom he created MTV’s The Hard Times of RJBerger. Warners are after a sequel rather than a reboot of Beetlejuice, which marked Tim Burton and Michael Keaton’s first collaboration.
“We first got to know Seth through his fantastic work on Dark Shadows, and it immediately became a priority to expand our relationship with him,” Warner Bros production president Greg Silverman told Deadline. “Seth introduced us to David, who greatly impresses us with the vision for KatzSmith from the very first meeting. We firmly believe in their talents and are extremely excited to welcome them to the Warners family.”
