He made his name with genre shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine before revamping Battlestar Galactica to great acclaim, but producer and writer Ronald D. Moore has changed directions for his next project.

ABC has bought Hangtown from Moore and Caprica writer Matt Roberts. Described as a “Western with a procedural overlay”, Hangtown is set in the early 1900s in a lawless frontier town, and follows three central characters who work together: a Marshal who solves crime by instinct; a young doctor from the East Coast who places his faith in developing science of forensics; and a young female writer who is writing about crime-solving in the Wild West.
