With the disappearance of Peter Bishop from existence at the end of the third series of Fringe, the relationships between the characters will be altered, in some cases quite considerably, according to an interview in Entertainment Weekly with Lance Reddick, who plays Agent Broyles. Please note that there are some spoilers ahead for the fourth season.

Reddick suggests that without Peter, Astrid and Walter Bishop will become more formal. “There was a closeness they had that I don’t think necessarily exists,” he notes, and points out that his own character’s relationship with the scientist will change. “There is an affection that Broyles started to have with Walter that is gone now. Now it’s about keeping the guy functioning so that he can work for us. And even though Olivia is still his top agent, there isn’t necessarily the same kind of paternal relationship that Broyles and Olivia had before.”

However Reddick did confirm that Peter will be back. “It’ll be interesting once Peter reappears and as the season goes on, we try to figure out who the heck he is and what’s this crazy stuff he’s talking about. How in another reality we all knew each other. And how do we reintegrate that into the story.”
