Giorgio Moroder’s unusual version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis is going to be unveiled for a new generation later this autumn.

The 1984 film attracted controversy for its rock music soundtrack, and its reduction of the movie’s length down to 84 minutes. Complex rights issues relating to the songs have prevented its release on DVD or Blu-ray, but Kino Lorber has now sorted these out, and will be issuing the film, retitled Giorgio Moroder Presents Metropolis, on November 15.

A limited theatrical release of this edition will also take place in the US prior to the DVD and Blu-ray hitting shelves, with cinemas in roughly 20 North American cities playing the film, including Anchorage, San Francisco, San Diego, Miami Beach, Chicago, Albany, Charleston, Dallas, Houston, Olympia, Seattle, Washington DC and Vancouver.
