The BBC has announced that a special one-off three minute Doctor Who episode will air on BBC Three on Saturday October 1st, the same day as the season finale of Series Six is expected to be broadcast on BBC One.
Death Is The Only Answer was the winning entry in the BBC Learning and Doctor Who Confidential Script to Screen competition for 9-11 year olds, and was written by children from Oakley CE Junior School in Basingstoke. The competition was judged by the show’s executive producers Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger and Beth Willis alongside Controller of BBC Learning, Saul Nassé.
“I loved the shortlisted scripts, there was so much skill and enthusiasm on display that it was actually genuinely, very, very difficult to judge,” Moffat said. “There was some really, really skilled writing. It was very exciting how they caught the voice of the Doctor and how they used the always stringent limitations of Doctor Who to their advantage.”
The winning pupils saw their entry being filmed by Matt Smith, after which the actor commented: “It was so clever, we were all just bowled over, it was a brilliant script.”
More details of the winning entry can be seen in this week’s Doctor Who Confidential, airing at 8 p.m. on BBC Three.
