Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Martial arts star Jean-Claude Van Damme, sometimes known as The Muscles from Brussels, has signed up for British sci-fi movie UFO.

Unfortunately, it’s not the upcoming adaptation of the Gerry Anderson series that originally starred Ed Bishop as Commander Ed Straker, but an independent movie, written and directed by Dominic Burns which he told BBC News was “Independence Day meets Monsters, told from the point of view of Signs“.

UFO also stars Sean Brosnan, Andrew Shimm and Simon Phillips and is currently being filmed in Derby. Van Damme will play a retired military advisor. He agreed to play the role after the director emailed his wife. His last major role was in the self-parodying movie JCVD three years ago.
