Last week Syfy gave their hit show Eureka a six-episode sixth season order; on Monday they rescinded that. Now they have decided to allow the producers to wrap up what would have been the fifth season cliffhanger with one extra episode tacked onto the end of filming.

Executive producer Amy Berg posted the news on Twitter. “Rumors are true,” she tweeted.”Syfy and Universal are giving us one additional episode so we can end the series on our terms. Working on it now!”

Star Erica Cerra told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m thrilled Syfy is going to give its very loyal audience an ending they deserve. These characters have become a part of our fan’s families, and they have the right to know what the future holds for them. I am excited to give them a great ending to a fantastic run on this great show.”

Recurring guest star former Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Wil Wheaton has made no secret of his displeasure at the way the story was handled. “I’m trying really hard not to be upset with the network for issuing a statement to the press before the cast knew, so we wouldn’t have to find out the way we did; as you can imagine, it isn’t exactly easy,” he posted at his Typepad blog earlier this week. As yet there is no formal announcement from Syfy regarding the constant U-turns.
