The 1950s EC comics anthology Tales from the Crypt is set to inspire a new TV series, 15 years after an earlier version completed a seven year run on HBO.
Eureka‘s Andrew Cosby has teamed up with Gil Adler, who was one of the producers on the earlier incarnation, to create a new hour long show, according to a report at Deadline.com. Cosby told the site that the 21st Century version would not be an anthology, nor be directly linked to the HBO series. “It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context,” he said. “It’s all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences.”
After securing the rights, the producers have now prepared a detailed pitch and bible for the new show, and are in discussions for either a network or cable broadcast.
Tales from the Crypt was always a favorite of mine, I hope it will be good and I hope they don’t ruin it.
