Former 007 star Pierce Brosnan will headline A & E’s miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Bag of Bones, which Mick Garris will be directing from next month for broadcast later this year.
Brosnan will play writer Mike Noonan who finds difficulty moving on following the death of his wife Jo (played by Annabeth Gish). Returning to the couple’s lakeside retreat in Maine, he becomes caught up in a custody battle between an attractive young widow and her daughter’s grandfather, as well as experiencing ghostly visitations from his wife. According to Deadline.com, Kelly Rowland is expected to join the production.
Garris has regularly worked with King on filmed versions of the Master of Horror’s books, starting with The Stand and The Shining. The script for Bag of Bones is written by Matt Venne, and has been in preparation for some time.
“Bag of Bones is something we tried to do as a feature for two or three years,” Garris told Dread Central in May, “but the way features are now, if it’s not about teenagers or a sequel or a remake, forget it. We wanted to do something much more adult and passionate than studios are making now. It’s a ghost story for grown-ups. Television is the only place you can do that.”
