Former X-Files writer/producers Howard Gordon and James Wong have teamed up to create 2084, a new science fiction saga being developed simultaneously as a movie and a young adult book series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gordon and Wong are working with Vampire Diaries producers Alloy Entertainment on the project, with Gregg Rosenblum writing the books for HarperCollins. The concept is described as “a sort of 1984 meets The Terminator… The story is set in the late 21st Century, a time where robots, once created to aid humans and fight wars, now control the population’s every move.”

Gordon is best known for showrunning 24, and is co-creator of the upcoming thriller Homeland, purchased by Channel 4 this week. Wong is co-creator of the Final Destination franchise; he also worked on Millennium, and the recently-cancelled The Event.

No release dates for the movie or the novels have yet been announced.
