Universal Pictures has released the trailer for their new version of The Thing, which acts as a prequel to John Carpenter’s classic horror movie of the same name.
Directed by Dutch filmmaker Matthijs van Heijningen Jr, the 2011 incarnation stars Mary Elizabeth Wanstead, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Edgerton, Ulruch Thomsen and Eric Christian Olsen, based on a script by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer.
Although this film is tied directly to Carpenter’s 1982 movie, the director told Digital Spy earlier this year that he did not have any involvement with it.
Is it a prequel or a remake? There’s really no way that they could avoid telling the same story as the Carpenter film. It may be a well-crafted movie and entertaining in its way, but it seems kind of pointless.
