George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones has scored an incredible 13 nominations for the American Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2011 Emmy Awards, with only two other drama series (Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire) receiving more nods.

Game of Thrones is eligible for everything from Outstanding Drama and Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage, to Outstanding Writing, Directing, Costuming, Casting, Hairstyling, Prosthetic and Non-Prosthetic Make-Up, Sound Editing, Visual Effects, Stunts and Main Title.

It goes head to head with its nearest genre rival, True Blood, for best Non-Prosthetic Make-Up and Sound Editing, and the vampire show is also recognised for Outstanding Art Direction, and for Alfre Woodard’s appearance as Best Guest Actress.

The Walking Dead is nominated for Outstanding Prosthetic Make-Up, Sound Editing and Visual Effects, a category which sees Stargate Universe receive its single nomination, while Camelot receives a sole mention for Outstanding Music.

The winners will be announced at the ceremony on Sunday September 18.
