Tom Hanks’ Playtone Productions outfit is set to produce a six season TV series based on Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The in-development series will be produced by Gary Goetzman and Hanks, with Neil Gaiman on board as writer.
Each of the planned six seasons will run to 10-12 one hour episodes with a budget of $35-$40 million per season. The show is expected to debut on HBO in 2013. “There are some crazy things in [Gaiman’s book]. We’ll probably be doing more effects in there than has been done on a television series,” said Goetzman.
