Following the recently confirmed reboot of the DC Universe, which will see all titles reset to issue one following the conclusion of the Flashpoint event, DC have revealed who will appear in the comic line’s core team, the Justice League, whose first issue will appear on August 31.
According to a report in USA Today, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee will be the creative force behind the Justice League’s new formation. The team will have 14 members, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman, with African-American adventurer Cyborg one of the surprise additions. “He’s a character I really see as the modern-day, 21st-century superhero,” Johns told the paper. “He represents all of us in a lot of ways. If we have a cellphone and we’re texting on it, we are a cyborg — that’s what a cyborg is, using technology as an extension of ourselves.”
Many of the characters will have makeovers, with redesigned costumes and powers. “You’re trying to have your cake and eat it, too,” Jim Lee explained. “You’re trying to keep the iconic elements there, but at the same time freshen up the look so that people are intrigued by what they’re seeing and hopefully come and sample the wares.”
