Speaking at the MCM Expo in London, screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have suggested that mutant super soldier Cable may join the line-up for a sequel to X-Men: First Class.
“We would like to introduce Cable. He’s such a cool character and we haven’t seen him in any of the films yet,” the writers told The Coventry Telegraph. Their support for the character was echoed by his co-creator, Rob Liefeld, who feels that Avatar’s Stephen Lang would make an ideal choice for the mutant. “Dear 20th Century Fox, please sign Lang as Cable and put him in your next X-Men film,” he tweeted. “Lang’s performance as Quaritch in Avatar was brilliant. Just attach a cyborg arm to him and presto! He’s Cable. Perfect age too.”
The character is really Nathan Christopher Summers, the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor, born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities and sent to the future. He appeared in various series including The New Mutants and two volumes of his own title, before apparently dying in X-Force issue 28.
