Gary Nelson, who directed The Black Hole for Disney in the wake of Star Wars, has died aged 88.
After cutting his teeth as a director on the Westerns of the early 1960s, Nelson helmed multiple episodes of spy comedy Get Smart and The Ghost & Mrs Muir. Following the Disney SF epic, he directed episodes of Disneyland including a two-part remake of Freaky Friday as well as Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold, the Get Smart TV movie culminating in 19 episodes of the original version of Early Edition. with his last credit coming in 2000.
R.I.P., Gary, and thank you for The Black Hole which was a big favorite for me when I was a kid.
