ITV prepare follow-up to Marchlands

ITV is working on Lightfields, a follow-up to the successful ghost story Marchlands which aired last year.

Like Marchlands, it’s based on The Oaks, a 2009 pilot for Fox which didn’t proceed to series.

According to the report at Broadcast, the story opens in wartime Britain in 1944 when a fire rips through Lightfields’ hay barn and leaves the lives of the family who live there and those of the evacuees they are hosting in tatters.

The incident resurfaces in 1976 when fragile-minded Vivien moves to Lightfields and supernatural events at her new home force her to confront forgotten childhood memories of her time as an evacuee in Suffolk.

The final chapter takes place in the present day, when a husband and wife try to establish the farmhouse as a bed and breakfast. But they welcome in a family member connected to the events in 1944, who disturbs the restless spirit in the house.

Lightfields is written by Survivors’ writer Simon Tyrell and directed by Damian Moore. It will be filmed in Rickmansworth and East Sussex. None of the cast from Marchlands is expected to return.
